1. First take your image. I took this one of Kirsten and resized a section of it to 75 x 54 and then sharpened it once.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

2. Add the image to a 100x100 blank then add this brush from 1greeneye. Then take out the bits that cover Kirstens face.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

3. Then add this text brush by (I think) [info]dearest and take out the part thats covering the image.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

4. Now take out two 75 x 3 bits of the image and place them under the picture on new layers. Now blur them a little and it should look like this.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

5. Now merge all layers and duplicate the layer. Desaturate and set to Hard Light, Opacity 45%.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

6. Now take this gradient (no idea who it's by) and set it to muliply.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

7. Then take the same gradient and set it to Overlay, Opacity 47%.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

8. Make a new raster layer. Now type the text at Tahoma, size 16 in blank. Then cut away the bottom half.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

9. Then add this text brush from [info]whitetomb several times and viola!

I'd love to see how some of these turn out ^_^

I love this tut, I actually have made several icons following it. The first I made from stritly using everything you used, but the second I played around with different colorings and textures. :)

Mmkay I'm going to make th biggest arse of myself, but the second step when it says to add the 75x54 image to a 100x100 blank, how do I do that? I know basic photoshop but sometimes I'm the most daft person alive, haha. Thanks so much.

[info]lipsofpoison

November 13 2005, 19:47:12 UTC 6 years ago

Just open a new 100x100 image and then copy the 75x54 image and place on there.

November 14 2005, 14:18:36 UTC 6 years ago

Go to colors, then adjust, then to Hue/Saturation/Lightness and set Saturation and Lightness to 0.

Hi. I found a link to your tutorial and made this icon. I wanted to see how it would work with a black and white picture as the base. I'm not sure why there is white around the text on that small text brush.

When you paste it on, you need to set it to screen, that's why it's white.
